Drs. Anthony Aldave and Elmer Tu conducted Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) surgery skills transfer courses at the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and at the Vietnam National Eye Hospital in Hanoi for surgeons at each of the centers. The courses included didactic lectures, live surgical demonstration of DMEK, proctored DSEK and DMEK surgery performed by the hospital’s surgeons and a wet lab session that allowed the course attendees to practice DMEK surgery. The courses were conducted in conjunction with Eversight Eye Bank, who generously provided all of the corneal tissue used for surgery and for training during the wet lab session.
